Hello everyone! Thank you so much for visiting me again.
This is a special Book Talk Tuesday Post for me.
It’s about my FAVORITE children’s book of ALL TIME!
I know, you are thinking “How in the world do you choose? There are so many great books out there?” But, this one is special.
I know, you are thinking “How in the world do you choose? There are so many great books out there?” But, this one is special.
Mrs. Beggs and the Wizard by Mercer Mayer has been my favorite since I was a little girl.
When I was in college, I discovered it again at a Half-Price Bookstore. It was the first children’s book that I bought for my future classroom.
Every time I find it, I buy another copy.
It has everything a great book needs: compelling characters, action, adventure, and MAGIC!
Mrs. Beggs owns a boarding house and one day Mr. Z.P. Alabasium: Wizard Extraordinaire shows up looking for a room. Once safely ensconced (that is such a great word isn’t it? ensconced?) strange thing start to happen! Of course, the guests start to complain…
I love everything about this book! I love the great word choice:
boarding house, constable, extraordinaire, tweaked.
I love the amazing illustrations!
I also love the humor: “Aunt Cecelia flew away on a vacuum cleaner; not having a broom on hand…”
Most of all, I LOVE reading this book aloud to my students. I read it every year on the first and last days of school.
It ends with another mysterious stranger showing up at the door:
The story ends here.
My kiddos ALWAYS groan!
They want to hear more!
