This post contains an affiliate link.  See below! Click on the picture for a video of the story! (Note: it is not my video!) Hello again!  Thank you so much for dropping by my humble little corner of Cyberspace! Today I want to share with you an adorable book by Peter Brown!  My Teacher is a Monster (No, I’m Not!)  The main character Bobby is one of those “happy little classroom challenges”.  His teacher Ms. Kirby is known to do a little stomping and a little roaring! But one day, they run into each other at the park, and a gust of

To Snack or Not to Snack? That is the question!

Hello everyone! Today I want to share with you my thoughts about Snack in the classroom! To Snack? (Pros) Staves off hunger. Gives the kiddos a break. Keeps blood sugar levels steady. Kiddos less grumpy. No noise from rumbly tummies while the kiddos are trying to read. I get to snack too! Not to Snack? (Cons) Messy. Not everyone brings a snack. Takes time out of your day. Allergy issues. That being said, I am a snack fan! We have a snack in my class everyday after Writer’s Workshop and before we start our Reading Workshop.  This gives the kiddos

Book Talk Tuesday (with a freebie of course!): Building Our House

Hello again!  Thanks for joining me for another Book Talk Tuesday! This week I would like to share this little gem! This is Building Our House by Jonathan Bean.  It is based on the story of his parents building their house when he was little!  How cool is that? The illustrations in this book are lovely. It is a great book to show perseverance, as this family build the house themselves.  It shows them living in a trailer while it is being built.  It also shows how everyone in the family helped to build it.  We talked about what perseverance

You might not want to read this post…

So, I really went back and forth about whether to write this blog post. I mean, this is information the world needs to know right? I don’t know…this is a Teaching and Learning Blog. All of my posts should be about Teaching and Learning. Well, who doesn’t want to learn about this? Hmmmm…. Okay here we go…. It’s a surprise “Grown Up, Teachery” Book Talk Tuesday!   I recently went to Dave Burgess’s workshop about his book Teach Like a Pirate, and this what greeted us as we walked it. and then…… He didn’t even talk about it until half

Planet Points: Mini-Anchor Charts!

Hello again!   Thanks for stopping by for this month’s Planet Point! I want to share with you an idea about anchor charts. I LOVE anchor charts!  I think that they are the perfect way to make our thinking visible.  I am a staunch believer in making my anchor charts with the kiddos. That being said, anchor charts take up a lot of wall space. Sometimes you need a smaller “reminder” chart, or just a chart for one specific idea. I have found that making mini-anchor charts works perfectly. I also found that I LOVE to make them on Super

Book Talk Tuesday: Gaston

This week, I want to talk about the book Gaston by Kelly DiPucchio. Oh my goodness!  This is the cutie patootiest book EVER! It is about a family of french poodles and (a somewhat out of place french bulldog) Gaston.  They are all learning to be proper poodles, and no one works harder than Gaston!  He is the only boy among his sisters.  One day the poodle family decides to go to the park.  There they meet a family of french bulldogs.  They are all boys, with the exception of their poodle sister, Antoinette.  It is evident to everyone that

Book Talk Tuesday: Almost Super with a Freebie!

Hello again! Happy Tuesday! Today our book is a chapter book. This year my class had a really hard time settling down after lunch and recess, so I moved my daily chapter book read aloud from the end of the day to right after recess. We read several books this year (which will be featured in upcoming posts) but this one was our favorite this year! Almost Super by Marion Jensen is about a family of superheros (The Bailey’s) and their archenemies (The Johnson’s).  Every leap year the children who are 12 or older in these families get super powers

Hello all! Happy Summer Vacation. I am starting a new series called: Book Talk Tuesday. Each Tuesday I will be featuring a book that I love with a freebie to go with it! This week I am talking about: A Porcupine Named Fluffy by Helen Lester. This is an adorable book about a porcupine who has some trouble with his unusual name.  I mean really, who names a porcupine Fluffy? He is pretty upset about it until he meets a friend with an equally amusing and unusual name! This book is adorable!  My students really enjoyed it.  We talked about

Planet Points: Quick Classroom tips and Tricks!

I love fun, decorative gel clings for my classroom door. You know what I don’t love?  The kiddos touching them, taking them off, dropping them on the floor, and putting them back up! I don’t like it when I can’t get them to look like they do in the package. I have a solution! Leave the plastic backing on! This is a picture from the back. Everything stays right where it is meant to be and if the kiddos touch it, they won’t be touching the gel! You could even cut it into the shapes of the objects so you
