Naked Turkeys!

Naked Turkeys, Turkeys in Disguise, Disguise a Turkey…whatever you call it this is a great family activity to do in November!

Naked Turkeys

I love this project!  I have been doing this project my entire teaching career (all 23 years of it)!  I am sure that you know what I am talking about…Disguise a turkey so it won’t get eaten for Thanksgiving.

We start by reading the classic tale: (this is an affiliate link. If you purchase anything through this link I get a small commission at no cost to you) Turkey Trouble by Wendi Silvano. The turkey in this story is very clever, and his disguises are “chef’s kiss”! It’s the perfect lead into the Naked Turkey Project!

I am not sure where I got the current template I am using (if it’s you, let me know I would love to give you credit!).  The whole second grade does this as a family-at-home project.

The kiddos are to disguise their turkey and do some writing! This project could be used to practice writing a description. Students will describe the turkey’s disguise.

You could also use this to help your students practice persuasive writing. They use the speech bubble to persuade the reader that this is in fact, not a turkey and shouldn’t be eaten!

Every year I am extremely impressed with the creativity of the kiddos and their parents!  This is one of my favorite projects of the year.  There is often a traffic jam right outside my door because everyone is stopping to check the “not turkeys” out!  These aren’t the greatest pictures (my fourth-grade son took them for me), but they do show a lot of the turkeys.  Some of them are my teaching partner’s kiddo’s turkeys.  We got all kinds this year!  The kiddos are so creative!  Of course, there are a ton more, but these are the pictures that came out the best.
