The Real Teachers of Blog County: Teachers Read (when they have some free time!) and the next giveaway!

Welcome to another installation of The Real Teachers of Blog County! I don’t know about you, but one thing that I love to do (when I have some free time, wink, wink) is to sit down with a cup of coffee (or a glass of wine) and read a good book! I want to share some of my faves today! 1. Favorite Children’s book: I am a HUGE fan of the Harry Potter series. Yes, I have read them all.  I have seen all the movies.  I have been to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios, and

Opinion Poll: digital or print?

I want to start by saying I LOVE TECHNOLOGY (until it doesn’t work, then I don’t).  I have and ipod (which I listen to audio books on), a laptop (where I incessantly read blogs), a tablet computer (with the Kindle app), not to mention an iPad (provided by my school to do MCLASS assessments).  I love the idea of being able to carry around a whole library on a device!  (Maybe I would feel differently if I had a smartphone…)But….There is something wonderful about sitting down with a book (or laying down, I am a librocubicularist: one who loves to read in bed).

Mentor Text Link Up! Happy International Children’s Book Day!

I am linking up with Collaboration Cuties for their Mentor Text linky!  I love children’s books and what a better day to do it than on International Children’s book day? I love this book!  Of course, I love pretty much anything by Chris Van Allsberg!  It is about a farmer who accidentally hits a man with his truck.  He brings the man home.  The Stranger doesn’t speak, but enjoys his time with the farmer and his family.  The strange thing is, summer seems to be going on for n extra long time!   I cheated a little on the One

The Three Questions + Freebie!

Today was one of those days in my room.  Bad weather, new seats, computer lab=hyped up kiddos!  One thing I have to say about my class this year is that they love to be read to!  They like to get into the conversation, and they LOVE a good book.  I found one today.  My teaching partner lent it to me because we are working on Asking Questions.  The book is called The Three Questions  by Jon J. Muth and it is based on a story by Leo Tolstoy.  It is a deep one, but one that the kiddos can relate

Book Raffles!

One of my very favorite parts of teaching is reading aloud to the kiddos.  I always try to pick a story that moves me as well as them.  I have a really awesome group of “story kiddos” this year.  No matter how they behave the rest of the day, they are good as gold when I read a story!   That being said, I read a lot! The kiddos always want the book that I have read.  I used to just give it to the first kiddo who asked, but then it became the same 2 all the time.  Then, along

Best Books of 2012 Linky Party!

Link Up HERE! I am linking up with Teacher Treasure Hunter to tell you about my favorite new book from 2012.  It’s called Lulu and the Brontosaurus by Judith Viorst.  I guess it isn’t technically a picture book, because it has chapters, but there are a lot of pictures! It is about a little girl named Lulu who wants a brontosaurus for her birthday.  When her parents tell her no, she sets off to go and find one for herself.   It has an adorable little song that Lulu sings (I’m gonna, I’m gonna, I’m gonna gonna get, a bronto-bronto-bronto-bronto-saurus for
